Basil 'Purple Ruffles'
(Ocimum basilicum purpurascens)
100 seeds $3.00
Basil 'Purple Ruffles' has dark purple, ruffled leaves with a deliciously spicy flavor like cinnamon and anise.
Purple Ruffles basil was an All-America Selections winner in 1987. It was the result of a cross between Dark Opal and Green Ruffles basil. In my experience, it's not a very stable cross, sometimes reverting to green. But it's cute.
Basil is used medicinally for all sorts of stomach and digestive problems. It is also antiviral and antibacterial. Click here for more information and recipes.
