Penstemon laevigatus has pale lavender-pink to white flowers on tall stems. The smooth semi-evergreen leaves are about 6" long. It has a prolonged bloom season, with flowers appearing continuously from early to late summer. It is more tolerant of shade and moist soil than other species.

Our original seeds were sent to us by John Ambler of Lancaster, PA, who collected it on the side of a highway. It was identified by botanist Tim Draede. 

Also known as Appalachian Beardtongue. Hardy in zones 5-9. Give the seeds 5 weeks cold-moist stratification.

Sow penstemon seeds outdoors in pots in late fall or winter. Or start indoors, then refrigerate the pots for 5 weeks. Sow on the surface. Full sun to part shade.
