Soak overnight. Sow outdoors 2 weeks after last frost date, 1/2" deep. Or start indoors 5 weeks early. Transplant 2 weeks after last frost. Spacing 15". Full sun.​

Okra 'Jing Orange' is a lovely variety with reddish-orange, ribbed pods. It's not a spineless variety, so wear gloves when harvesting. The 5-6' tall plants lend a tropical feel to the garden with yellow, hibiscus-like flowers.

Okra 'Hill Country Red' is famous for its rich flavor and productivity. It has wide, light green pods tinged with red. The 6' tall plants have red stems. Not spineless, but the spines wilt after a day in the fridge. Good choice for okra connoisseurs.

Heirloom from Southern Texas.
White Velvet okra is one of the best varieties we have ever grown. The spineless pods stay tender up to 6" long. They are less than 1" in diameter and nearly ridgeless. They have a fascinating silvery-greenish-white color and a velvety texture. It's a very productive variety for late summer harvest. This wonderful American heirloom was introduced in 1890 by Peter Henderson & Company.
