Ipomopsis rubra is a native Texas wildflower with scarlet-red, trumpet-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds. The tall, narrow stems are covered with vivid blooms in late summer.
Ipomopsis rubra is a biennial that can be sown in autumn in the south. It blooms the first year if the seeds are started early indoors, so it can also be grown as an annual in cooler zones. It self sows in my zone 5 garden.
Also known as Standing Cypress and Gilia rubra. Hardy in zones 6-10.
