Celosia 'Sokoyokoto' is a wonderful annual that is both ornamental and edible. The spikes of ruby-pink flowers can be used for cut flower arrangements. They also attract beneficial insects. The bushy plants grow up to 5 feet tall, making it a good choice for hedges.

Sokoyokoto celosia is also known as Lagos Spinach because the leaves are a good spinach substitute. For best quality, they should be picked before the plants flower. Like amaranth greens, they are eaten cooked - usually added to soups and stews. They are the most popular cooked green in Nigeria. The flowers can be used to make a bright pink tea. Add a little lemon and honey.

Celosia 'Sokoyokoto' can self-sow abundantly, so consider its placement in the garden. This is not a concern if you are only growing it for greens.
